Low-cost airline AirAsia will begin flying between Yangon and Chiang Mai, Thailand, three times a week starting on August 11, according to a report. The flights will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on planes carrying up to 180 passengers, according to an article in Myanmar Business Today. The Malaysian carrier also operates flights from Yangon to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, and from Mandalay to Bangkok. The opening of the Chiang Mai flights increases opportunities for Yangon-based travelers. Some of the town’s best-known sights include Wat Phra Tat Doi Suthep, Royal Park Rajapruek, Chiang Mai Zoo and Chiang Mai Night Safari. Flag carrier Myanmar National Airlines is the only other airline to operate flights from Yangon to Chiang Mai.
