Anthem Asia raises USD 34.5 million fund

Yangon-based investment group Anthem Asia has announced that its debut fund, Anthem Asia Myanmar SME Venture Fund, has raised USD 34.5 million in commitments from three institutional investors, according to a report in the Myanmar Times. The fund, which is targeted to reach a total of $50 million, will reportedly focus on providing expansion capital for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Myanmar, in particular those operating in the areas of agriculture, finance , education, food and beverage, healthcare, logistics and marketing communications. “Myanmar offers many exciting opportunities and, in spite of the often difficult operating environment, has huge long-term potential as it re-engaged with the Asian and global economy,” said Ms Josephine Price, a partner with Anthem Asia, in a statement. The company currently has investments in several Yangon-based companies, including F&B group Rangoon Tea House, Thalun International School and Hintha Business Centres.
