7Day News Daily reported that the Hanthawaddy International Airport project in Bago Region is back on tracks with the first phase to be completed in 2027 according to a statement released by the Department of Civil Aviation, under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, on August 26.
The project, conducted with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to increase the number of domestic passengers and foreign tourists and improving air freight services, while developing the local economy.
The airport will replace Yangon International Airport and includes building roads, a wastewater treatment plant, water and power supply systems, and communications systems.
