The COVID-19 global outbreak continues to heavily impact Myanmar. After its borders with China being nearly closed for about 2 weeks and slowly starting to resume operations, it’s India’s turn to start closing border gates indefinitely at the Tamu (Sagaing Region) – Moreh (Manipur in India) crossing, since the morning of March 10.
Speaking to Eleven Media, Sagaing Region MP U Myint Naing Oo from Tamu Township said “India has informed Myanmar government about the border shutdown. Two suspected patients were found in Inphar, the city of Manipura. Eleven suspected patients tested negative for the virus. Two suspected patients are pending the result. Myanmar also temporarily closed the border.”
Entry of foreigners from this border checkpoints is completely banned announced the Manipur government. The Myanmar-India border stretches over 1,600 km (990 miles) and also has a trade border in Chin State which is operating as normal at the time of writing.
