Internet and ecommerce usage surge in past month

Mobile operators and ecommerce vendors are set to gain from the COVID-19 situation. Thirsty for information and latest updates on the pandemic, with more time in hand due to sector-wide closures and working from home policies, mobile subscribers have increased their data consumption by 25% over the past 4 weeks.

The Myanmar Times also reports a rise in online shopping for the same reasons. Speaking with different online retailers, all have highlighted an increase in their orders. Both telecommunication companies and online retailers ensure that they can adjust to the surge in demand. Mytel, Ooredoo and Telenor also presented a plan to the Post and Telecommunication Department to cut mobile phone charges during the COVID-19 crisis.
