The governments of Myanmar and the Philippines are to work together to help develop each other’s farm sectors, particularly with regards to improving fisheries production, according to a news report in the island nation. An article in the Manila Times said that officials from the Philippines’ Department of Agriculture had met with representatives from Myanmar’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation last month, to discuss the deal. The Philippines reportedly proposed a collaboration effort for the development of fisheries products from the Indian Ocean, as well as establishing fisheries processing facilities in Myanmar. “Myanmar presented six work plans and training proposals for collaboration with the Philippines in the field of food processing and value-adding, brood stock management of shrimp, seed sector development, buffalo breeding, pasture development and agricultural machinery,” the Department of Agriculture was quoted as saying.
