Myanmar media platform MySQUAR is to begin selling advertisements for the Chinese instant messaging giant WeChat, according to a report. An article in Proactiveinestors said that the Yangon-based company will oversee advertisements from Myanmar-based companies targeting mainland Chinese visitors to Myanmar, as well as Myanmar resident users of the popular platform. “This is a new and exciting business line for the company and, while revenues cannot be predicted, the board believes that our relationship with Tencent [the developer of WeChat] and its partners is strategically important for the company and we hope to build substantially on it,” Piers Pottinger, chairman of MySQUAR was quoted as saying. WeChat is one of the world’s largest mobile phone apps and claims to have more than 1 billion active users.
