A meeting planned between signatories of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) in Thailand has been cancelled after Myanmar filed complaint. According to a Frontier article, the KNU general secretary Padoh Saw Ta Doh Moo is saying that a meeting of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) was due to take place in Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, on 8th – 9th June. It was cancelled after a complaint letter was sent to the Thai military by Myanmar military attache Brigadier-General Khin Zaw. “We heard that the reason for objecting is that the non-signatory groups, the KIA [Kachin Independence Army] and the KNPP [Karenni National Progressive Party], could be joining the PPST meeting, but they could not join it in reality,” Padoh Saw Ta Doh Moo told Frontier. Furthermore, he mentioned that the Tatmadaw (Myanmar Armed Forces) and the government should give the signatories and non-signatories a chance to meet “to move the peace process forward”.
