The signatories of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) have hosted a meeting in Yangon as part of the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC), ahead of a planned third 21st Century Panglong Union Peace Conference (UPC) in the coming months. A representative of UPDJC was quoted in a local report as saying that the signatories had already approved the discussions points ahead of the planned conference, the last of which took place in May 2017. The article said the attendees at the meeting reported on informal meetings that had been held with the government, the military, fellow signatories and the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST). Ten groups have signed the NCA since 2015, but the peace process inside Myanmar has been set back by intensified fighting in recent months, especially in Kachin and Shan states in the country’s north.
