As reported by The Nikkei Asian Review, Japan’s largest telecom player Nippon Telegraph & Telephone (NTT) will work with tech giants to establish a new link between India and Myanmar to handle rapid growing internet traffic and increase bandwidth capacities.
NTT will lay a new submarine cable connecting Myanmar and India through an investment worth around USD 400 million to be supported by one of the tech giants though the identity of such was not disclosed.
The cable is expected to begin carrying data in June 2022. Myanmar only has a few undersea cables, which means connection fees are still high.
