Back in April, the government had announced limitations and restrictions to rice exportation in the midst of panic buying and uncertainty of COVID-19 impact on the country.
The restrictions included tighter time-limits on export licenses, higher contribution to government rice reserves and limits in export volumes. From July 1st, these restrictions are to be eased or entirely lifted said U Ye Min Aung, chair of the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF). Producers still face limitations though and are not allowed to export more than 150,000 tons of rice in July and August, and 100,000 tons in September.
Many countries in Asia have showed interest in buying huge quantities of Myanmar rice, including the Philippines and Indonesia.
