Japanese auto maker and national automotive market leader Suzuki Motor has announced that it will invest USD 100 million to increase production at one of its Myanmar factories, as announced by the company and reported by the Nikkei Asian Review.
With the investment, the floor space of the factory is expected to increase to 42,000 sq.m while production is expected to increase to 40,000 vehicles from its original capacity of 10,000. The plant is also expected to start production of the new Suzuki Swift and the Suzuki Ertiga models by September 2021.
Suzuki Motor Corp has a 60 percent share in the Myanmar market and began producing its Ertiga multi-purpose vehicle in 2015 at a plant at the Thilawa Special Economic Zone southeast of Yangon. Toyota and Hyundai have been said to investigate to set up production factories in the country as well betting on a boost of local demand.
