Tourist arrivals drop 75% YoY

Less than 1 million tourists have visited Myanmar in 2020, a drop of more than 75% compared to 2019 (4.4 million) said the Deputy Minister of
Hotels and Tourism, U Tin Latt, during a National Tourism Development Central Committee meeting held earlier this week.

International visitors have been unable to visit the country since the pandemic started and the borders have been closed back in March last year, almost a year ago.

U Tin Latt added that he did not expect the country to reopen before the 4th quarter of the current year “at the earliest” dampening any hope that tourism industry players may still have had, with thousands of businesses and jobs on the line.
