According to official statistics released by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, 23 new fuel stations were granted a licence and opened their doors in the first 2 months of 2020, bringing the total number of such stations to 2,704. Stations are unevenly geographically distributed with 188 stations in Yangon, 658 in Mandalay, and only 5 in Chin State. Fuel prices have almost halved in the past 3 months, at 500 to 600 MMK per liter, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
