If the trade with its Indian neighbor is down 40% (see this week’s highlight), Myanmar’s commercial exchanges with its ASEAN partners remain healthy.
According to the latest reports from the Ministry of Commerce, the aggregated sea and land trade between Myanmar and the rest of the block, for the first half of the 2019-20 fiscal year, amounted to USD 6.9 billion.
Myanmar still imports twice as much as it exports with its regional partners (USD 2.14 billion exports value versus USD 4.75 billion imports). Taken as a whole the block is the country’s 2nd trade partner – after China. In ASEAN, Thailand stands out as the number one trading partner, followed by Singapore and Malaysia coming third.
