According to numerous reports, the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, is expected to visit Myanmar late next week to discuss bilateral relations and celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Myanmar.
Though unconfirmed by neither parties, there’s been numerous reports from Nay Pyi Taw confirming the imminent visit. This will be Xi’s first visit since 2009 during which time he was still China’s Premier.
China is Myanmar’s current number one trade partner (see this week’s article) and a strong ally in the country’s ongoing diplomatic row with the international community regarding its handling of the crisis in Rakhine State.
