NLD member resign dictatorial

Ex-NLD member says party is ‘undemocratic’

A parliamentarian who recently resigned from the National League for Democracy (NLD) has said that the party is conducted in an undemocratic manner. U Pe Chit, an Upper House MP in Yangon’s constituency 9, told reporters that there is no democracy “not only in parliament, but also in our constituency and our party, there is no democracy,  and dictatorship is apparent,” according to a report in the Myanmar Times. According to the report, Pe Chit said that the party central executive committee had not told him about a complaint filed against him in 2016 that accused him of failing to cooperate in development work in his constituency. U Pe Chit recently resigned from the NLD after being accused of not abiding by party regulations. The article did not identify individuals, and Pe Chit reportedly added that State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi may not be aware of the problems within the party.
