Myanmar may resume bean exports to India in June

India expected to re-start importing Myanmar beans

Traders in Myanmar’s beans and pulses industry have said they expect to re-start exporting to the Indian market this month. According to an article in the Myanmar Times, U Min Ko Oo, secretary of the Myanmar Pulses, Beans and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association, was quoted as saying that a decision on what companies are allowed to export the products to India is expected between June 10 and June 12. India, a hugely important market for Myanmar’s beans and pulses, stopped importing the product last year. It has since re-started accepting some on a three-month basis. The move comes after Myanmar President U Win Myint visited India recently. “It seems like India is observing the weather, and if they get less rain than last year, demand could increase,” said Min Ko Oo.
