Trade balance improves in First Half of Fiscal Year

Trade deficit drops by USD 1.3 billion in the second quarter

During the first six months of FY 2018-2019, the trade deficit has dropped by USD 1.315 billion compared to the same period during FY 2017-2018. The data was released by U Maung Maung Win, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, at a meeting of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on May 23. The breakdown of exports are USD 2.874 billion from finished industrial exports; USD 1.765 billion from oil and gas industry exports; USD 1.708 billion from the export of agricultural products; USD 548.9 million from mineral exports, USD 432.8 million from fishery exports; USD 275.4 million from animal products, and USD 90.5 million from exporting forestry products and USD 609.4 million in exports of other products. These exports went primarily to China, Thailand, Japan, India, and Singapore.
