London-listed MySQUAR, a technological company with Myanmar operations, has reportedly launched an inbound remittance service in the country, months after it acquired mobile payment operator MyPAY Myanmar as part of a US$ 2.6 million deal. An article in Dealstreet Asia said that the first phase of the development will offer services between Myanmar and Singapore, before it is expanded to countries with a high number of Myanmar expatriates, including Thailand and Malaysia, as well as Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, quoting Eric Schaer, MySQUAR CEO. The article cited a Telenor report saying that Myanmar leads the way in ASEAN for 3G/4G rollouts, with 90 percent of the population living within range of mobile broadband. “We see many opportunities for growth especially as smart phone usage and disposable income continue to increase,” Schaer was quoted as saying. According to its website, MySQUAR had 22 million registered users as of December 2017, accounting for almost half of the country’s population.
