UN refugees chief visits IDPs in Rakhine

Filippo Grandi, chief of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, has visited refugee camps in Rakhine State, amid escalating conflict in the restive state. According to reports, Grandi visited camps for internally displaced people in Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships, as part of a five-day visit to the country. The visit comes amid continued fighting between the Arakan Army (AA) and the Tatmadaw, especially in the north of the state. “They discussed with district administrative officers how to coordinate in supporting Rakhine refugees,” Maungdaw administrator U Saw Aung was quoted as saying by the Myanmar Times.
